Reflection Wk 6- Player Centered Design

The video game industry consists of  a diverse range of genres that serve their particular audiences. In the business of making games, the majority of designers choose to create games that fit within these established genres as they already have a guaranteed market, that is why there is such an abundance of fps games. This is the safe way, the tried and worked formula. However occasionally there is some game released that is entirely alien to us or introduces a new game dynamic or explores new methods of interactivity. These games usually experience a mixed reception from their release, some praising them and others weary. However, as strange or boring as they might be, it is these games that are pushing the industry forward. Later on, other companies will pick up where they went wrong and better games will continue to flourish. I agree with the concept of player centered design, however i believe this can be achieved without sticking with making the same types of games over and over again. I think a “good” designer can find original ways to entertain the player, without limiting their creativity. Because who really knows what the player will find “fun.” I feel if they find some way of making a game that we have never played before that is aesthetically pleasing in some way, go for it, inspire us.
